IN THIS ARTICLE,
I share tips on how to properly shop for shoes and how you can avoid buying shoes that will aggravate your feet and prevent you from getting bunions or worsening them.
Disclaimer: I am not a podiatrist but I have worked in a couple shoe stores and have learned some tricks that have helped me with this problem. Below is a recommendation of the podiatrist I saw in Toronto that I really liked. Hopefully these little pointers can help you next time you’re shoe shopping. Enjoy reading!✨

Felicity by Steve Madden

When Shopping for heels, I like to look for uniqueness.✨
What makes them different?
What makes them stand out?

With years of experience working in high-end retail stores, boutique shops & shoe stores, & taking a trip to the best foot clinic in Toronto… I’ve learned a thing or two on how to shop for heels that won’t hurt your feet (as much).

What I love about these Steve Madden shoes is the peek-a-boo detail at the middle sole, whereas the outer sole is covered. It gives them a slight edge while allowing more breathability & comfort.
Something to look out for when shopping for shoes is…
One thing to look out for when shopping for shoes is bunion coverage! I have bunions from years of dance, so buying shoes can be difficult. This is a very common issue among many & not a lot of shoes (especially high heels) are made with this in mind. The trick is: the upper part of the shoe must cover the whole bunion area! It cannot cut it off! If the lining of the shoe hits the middle of your bunion, all the pressure will hit that area causing swelling & ultimately, make your bunions grow! We don’t want that! Even if you don’t have bunions (I envy you), you need to make sure not to aggravate this area or bunions will develop over time! Yikes!
Another trick is: try to avoid buying pointed toe heels! (Something the podiatrist told me). OK, I know I’m being a hypocrite here because these shoes are pointed BUT I can justify the extra wiggle room given the cut-out detail on the side. It definitely makes a difference! Also, I just love pointed-toe heels. They make your feet appear smaller & they are just…SO sexy!

FUN FACT:
One of my first jobs in Toronto was a boutique shoe store that sold unique shoes from all over the world. They were big on educating their staff on brands, materials, fit, feel, comfort etc.

*Fits small.
I went up half a size.
